What are lever arch files & ring binders?

Used in offices and by students around the world, these filing folders are essential for easy-to-access paperwork. Suitable for plastic pockets or hole punched documents, lever arch files and ring binders allow for the organisation and storage of paperwork in a book-style system that can be accessed and easily added to.

Why buy lever arch files & ring binders?

Keeping paperwork in a filing cabinet or storage box is a convenient solution when the documents don't need to be regularly accessed. However, when it comes to organised paperwork that must be revisited, storing it in a folder is the best solution.

Lever arch file & ring binder types

Produced in a wide range of colours and designs, lever arch files and ring binders can be branded according to your business needs or are easy to label so they can be easily located on the shelf...

Lever arch files   -   These folders are often Foolscap sized but can also be purchased in A4 sizes. They feature D-shaped closures to hold more paperwork, which is operated using a lever mechanism. They're usually supplied with a clip which fits over the paperwork to secure it in place.

Ring binders   -   These can have anything from two to six rings to secure paperwork. Made with thick cardboard or plastic, they are limited to the amount of paperwork they can hold but are ideal for a lighter storage option.

Considerations when choosing lever arch files & ring binders

Size - think about the number of documents you need to store before making your choice. If ring binders are overfilled, they can break, while lever arch files can hold over double that of an A4 ring binder.

Colour - both ring binders and lever arch files are produced in a variety of colours and patterns. Decide whether you'd like to keep your colours consistent and on brand or mix it up with a bright colour for each folder.

Number of rings - ring binders can feature up to six rings to keep paperwork secure, while standard ring binders have only two rings.

Accessories - for really organised paperwork, try a pack of dividers in numbered, alphabetised, or customisable options. To protect your paperwork or keep groups of sheets together, punch pockets are a quick and reusable solution.

FAQs

What's the difference between A4 and foolscap lever arch files?

This is a sizing difference. Foolscap files are slightly larger than A4 (21cm x 30cm) and typically measure 21.59cm x 34.29cm. This is enough to provide a slight border at the top and bottom of the A4 documents contained.

How many pages can you fit in a lever arch file?

Depending on the gsm of the paper, a typical lever arch file will hold approximately five hundred pages. A ring binder on the other hand can hold anything between one-hundred and fifty to three hundred sheets.
