Burettes

Where controlled dispensing of liquids is required, burettes are an invaluable tool to have. Used commonly in titration processes across various industries, here at Cromwell, we have a choice selection of burettes from leading brands such as Azlon.

Why burettes?

Usually manufactured from plastic or glass, burettes are a graduated, tapered tube that possess a stopcock at the lower end and a capillary valve at the outset which is designed for delivering known and controlled quantities of a liquid. Burettes are widely used when performing titration across multiple industries including the automotive, pharmaceutical, cosmetic and food and beverage sectors. They are cost effective and simple to use and are widely used in numerous environments and ndustries.

Burette types

There are 3 main types of burette, all with slightly different features and uses. Below, the most common types of burette have been outlined to make it easier for you to shop our range of products.

Electronic    -    Also referred to as an E-Burette, an electronic burette boasts electronic displays, an electronic control panel and motor controlled piston movement that is automated for optimum accuracy when dispensing liquids. The accuracy of electronic burettes is generally better than manual burettes, as it reduces the risk of human error when dispensing liquid.

Digital or Piston   -    The overall design of a digital or piston burette is based upon a syringe style design, with a barrel and plunger. The barrel is fixed, whilst the plunger can be rotated to dispense liquid either by hand or by a motorised step device. Some digital burettes can be programmed by a computer for maximum accuracy when dispensing.

Volumetric   -    Manufactured from either plastic or glass, volumetric burettes are a manual type of burette with measurements printed up the side of the tube. They possess a stopcock and a valve to control the level of liquid dispensed. Generally, they are designed to be clamped in place and fixed to a stand for an even flow of liquid. Volumetric burettes can be suited for use with either gas or liquids depending on their design.

FAQs

What is titration?

Titration is a term that refers to the process of using a solution of a known concentration and composition to determine and inspect the composition and concentration of another, unknown liquid. The known liquid is referred to as the "titrant" and is dispensed from the burette into the unknown solution until a chemical reaction is complete. It is a common process and is a type of volumetric analysis often used in the pharmaceutical industry.
