What are brooms?

Brooms are a simple yet effective cleaning device that have been used for centuries. Due to their versatility and popularity, chances are you're not more than a few meters away from a broom right now.

Brooms consist of a sturdy handle, a strong head, and a number of bristles that can be swept across virtually any surface to pick up dirt, dust, and debris.

Why a broom?

Brooms are an efficient and highly cost-effective way to keep an area clean.
Cleanliness is vital throughout the workplace, and most countries enforce high standards of cleanliness through health and safety practices. By keeping a workplace clean, free of spills, and without excess debris, workplaces can prevent unnecessary accidents, injuries, or damage.

A broom is one of, if not the most effective tool to keep floors clean. With regular usage, brooms are one of the biggest preventors of unnecessary injury or item damage.

When are brooms used?

Simply put; brooms are used wherever there's flooring!

From warehouses to offices to at home, cleanliness is vital. This makes brooms a necessary addition to any cleaning equipment.

Considerations when choosing a broom

When choosing the right broom, there are a few key considerations to keep in mind to ensure you get the best one for your needs:

• Bristle material - There are a range of options when it comes to broom bristle material. PVC bristles are resistant to most chemicals, oils, and acids - making them an excellent choice for factories. Coco bristles are much finer and excel at picking up dust and smaller particles. Additionally, coco bristles are kinder to the environment.

• Broom head width - Broom head width should depend on the usage of your broom. Wider heads should be used for covering larger areas (e.g. factory floors) in less time, whereas smaller broom heads should be used to sweep in small spaces such as under desks etc.

• Handle length - A fairly obvious yet important consideration. Consider a longer broom handle if a wider reach is important to you.

• Handle material - Broom handles are available predominantly in wood for its sturdy reliability. Wooden broom handles are tough and made to last for years to come. Plastic handles are also available, which are ideal for usage in sterile environments. This is because plastic handles are easy to clean and sterilise.
